What do I need before registering the card on a desktop?

A USB smart-card reader and a WebAuthn-capable browser. The card presents as a FIDO2 / U2F authenticator through the reader; NFC is the phone flow rather than the desktop one.

Does the card work in any browser?

Any current desktop browser speaks WebAuthn — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on macOS. Prompt wording differs between them, and Chrome tends to be clearest about external keys.

Why does registration fail at the touch step?

Usually the card left the field before the ceremony finished. Leave it seated in the reader until the browser confirms, rather than removing it when the reader LED changes.

Is one credential per site or one per card?

One credential per site. The card stores multiple resident credentials, so the same card registers independently with many services and keeps them cryptographically unlinkable.

Can the same card be used on a phone afterwards?

Yes. NFC and USB are only transports — a credential registered over a desktop reader authenticates over an NFC tap on a phone, and the reverse holds too.
